Can you do it on virgin hair?
Yes. But it won’t last as long as a previously colored
or chemically treated hair. This treatment will work best
on hair that has been chemically treated. The Keratin
needs to penetrate the hair shaft and this is most effectively
achieved when the hair has been previously opened by prior
chemical treatments.

19.
What will my hair look like if I don't keep this
up?
It is easy to get use to a good thing. Many times one
forgets what one's hair looked like before the treatment.
If your hair had damage before the keratin treatment and
your hair was repaired by the treatment, and as the treatment
wears off, you may feel that your hair looks damaged.
You should not have more damage unless there was excessive
services done after the treatment to cause more damage.

Is this treatment good for African American Hair?
Yes it is good for African American hair. The results
are remarkable. It cost a bit more than the traditional
relaxer (on AA hair) and your results are softer and healthier.
The BKT will give very temporary results on virgin African
American hair. Much will depend upon the tightness of
the curl pattern and how closed the cuticle is. Results
will usually only last a month or so on this hair type.
This
treatment will work best on hair that has been chemically
treated. The Keratin needs to penetrate the hair shaft
and this is most effectively achieved when the hair has
been previously opened by prior chemical treatments. One
way to address this hair type would be to use a mild sodium
relaxer first to achieve some smoothness and open the
cuticle.
Next
the BKT can be applied to achieve great condition and
a silkier look. Because this is Keratin based it can be
applied over the relaxer on the same day with no chance
of damage.
You
can then expect to see results for 2-3 months. Again much
will depend on the original curl pattern, how quickly
the hair grows, and the hair texture.

What is the difference between the TR and BKT?
Relaxers or Japanese Straighteners work on breaking and
rearranging the internal bonds of the hair. Once these
processes are done, the hair is permanently straightened.
Of course the new growth will always be curly, but the
previously straightened hair will never revert or blend
back.
With thermal reconditioning, the promise is always of
silky smooth hair, but the reality is that the frizz factor
is not only a function of curl/wave, but a function of
the health of the cuticle or skin of the hair. In fact
one can have very frizzy straight hair if the cuticle
layer is damaged or abused.
The Japanese Thermal Straightener will permanently straighten
one’s hair and substantially reduce frizz, but it
can’t correct the condition of the cuticle.
Enter the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. The BKT is a semi-permanent
treatment that is keratin based. It will rebuild the hair,
seal the cuticle and protect it from the elements. It
is not meant to be permanent because the bonds are not
being broken or re-arranged; therefore if you want to
maintain the BKT is will have to be done more often then
a Japanese Straightener. The more damaged the hair the
better the results. Repeated applications will make the
hair silkier and smoother. A minimal amount of blow drying
is all that will be needed. The more layered the look
the more work that may be required, not to achieve straightness
a silky feel but to style.
You may have the BKT done if you have previously had your
hair relaxed or straightened by a Japanese Straightening
system. Your results will be soft, shiny and straight
just the same. The time is shorter than that of the Japanese
straightening therefore the price may be cut a bit, but
your return visits will be more than your once or twice
a year.
This can also be done if you have colored or highlighted
hair. And if you've had this done and wanted to go back
to the Japanese straightening you may do so, but make
sure you have consultations along the way.
