1.
How much does it cost?
The price can range from $400 to $1000. What determines the price
is 3 variables;
Length of hair, density of hair and porosity of hair.
NOTE: Our price is an all-inclusive price. This means that the price
you are quoted includes, your haircut, conditioning, styling and take
home maintenance products. This is and incredible value because the
take home products alone are worth about $120. (See more on home maintenance
products for Thermal Straightener).
2. How long does it take?
Usually 3 ½ hours. Why? We work with two technicians. These
chemicals are very time sensitive. They must be applied accurately,
efficiently and very promptly to insure even processing time. On average
it takes about 20- 30 min. for processing. Processing time begins
when the application of the product starts. At Hair Base it takes
two technicians, working in tandem, about 8 minutes to apply the solutions.
This insures the optimal processing time for the entire head. Most
salons, however, do not have the luxury of working with two technicians.
Application time can at least double. This results in uneven processing
and less optimum results.
3. How often will I need to repeat this
procedure?
The hair that is straightened, will be straight forever more. However
as time passes, the root area will grow back your natural curl. To
insure straight locks, we recommend touch-ups at the root area every
4-9 months. Very curly textures will need touch ups sooner, and wavy
textures can go up to 9 months.
4. What is the cost of a touch-up?
Usually a touch-up on a Thermal Straightener is about $100 less then
the original cost. Why? Because we use a bit less product then in
the original procedure. This multi step procedure, however, must remain
the same in order to have consistent results throughout the strands.
It will still take about 3 ½ hours to complete. Most salons
will charge a fraction of the original cost but beware! They are applying
the straightener solutions and not employing all the steps that set
the Japanese Thermal Straightener apart from all others.
5. What product do you use?
We use an authentic Japanese product called “iStraight System”;
a revolutionary hair straightening system that can be applied to almost
any condition and texture of hair. It is the safest and the most effective
straightening system for light curls to the most stubborn curly or
frizzy hair.
6. What makes the Japanese Thermal Straightener
so great?
Straighteners have been around for decades. But two things make this
system superior to the old straighteners.
- The first
is use of top quality ingredients that insure maximum performance.
There are many other straightening systems presently available in
the market, but most are silicone based. Silicone is known to cause
damage to the hair in the long run. The “iStraight" ingredients
include Ceramides. This is a natural resource that is part of your
intercellular bonds. Ceramides keep your hair healthy from the inside
out and keeps your hair’s cuticle (or skin) from being damaged.
Other ingredients include the finest natural oils combined with
mink oil to give the hair a soft feel and a natural brilliant shine.
- The second
is the change in the physical manipulation of the hair between the
solutions. After the hair is thoroughly prepared for the straightener,
the first solution is applied, in tandem, with two technicians.
After proper processing time, the solutions is very thoroughly rinsed
from the hair. The hair is then prepped again with conditioning
agents, dried, and a flat ironed. This is perhaps the cornerstone
to the Japanese technique. In natural curly hair, the outside cuticle
is shaped to keep the curliness of the hair. The flat iron technique
is used to set the hair in the most pristine form and to alter the
shape of the outside cuticle (or skin of the hair) to reinforce
the new straight form. A second solution is applied, processed,
rinsed and the hair is conditioned a third time before final styling.
All in all there are many steps that produce stunningly beautiful
results! Touch-ups should always follow the same muti-step process.
Any thing less is not perfection.
7. Do I need to come in for a consultation
or can I just book it?
Because this is a costly and lengthy procedure, booking a consultation
is a must. Our consultations are very comprehensive and take about
one hour to complete. We begin with a thorough mapping of your curl
pattern, porosity, elasticity, areas of damage and strength. We then
wash your hair, dry it and flat iron it. We do this for two reasons.
One: it allows us to become familiar with your curl’s strengths
and weaknesses. Two: It gives you a preview of what your hair will
look like with this procedure. The cost of the consult is $50. This
fee is reimbursed when having the Japanese Thermal Straightener done.
The consult is the best way to become thoroughly familiar with the
process, get a price quote and a perfect opportunity to have all your
questions answered.
